Jordan appreciates US support –– Momani

AMMAN –– The government on Thursday expressed appreciation to the US administration and Congress for extending more economic assistance to the Kingdom.
Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications and the Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani told The Jordan Times that Jordan appreciates the US decision to raise financial aid to the Kingdom to unprecedented levels of $1.275 billion for 2016, adding the assistance would help Jordan achieve its development plans and would also help the country cope with the Syrian refugee crisis.
"The US is Jordan's largest donor and we highly appreciate this assistance as lawmakers and decision makers in Washington are aware of the challenges the Kingdom is encountering due to regional instability," Momani said.
On Wednesday, US ambassador Alice G. Wells told chief editors of daily newspapers that the US Congress has approved extending “an unprecedented” $1.275 billion in assistance to Jordan in its 2016 budget bill, with ongoing efforts to increase this amount to a possible $1.6 billion.
The US ambassador said the assistance includes an additional $100 million to boost water supply in the Kingdom.
