Norway extends border controls once again
The Norwegian government said on Friday it would extend border checks for an additional 30 days.
The government said that asylum numbers have dropped significantly since Norway's implementation of border checks in November but there is a “continued need” for the measures in order to “ensure inner security and public order”.
“The control initiative has had a good preventive effect and there is reason to believe that many people will not attempt to travel to Norway because there are controls on the border,” Justice Minister Anders Anundsen said.
Norway implemented controls of its inner Schengen borders on November 26. All ferry arrivals from Denmark, Sweden and Germany are subject to personal ID checks.
The move was originally to last ten days but was extended in December. The new extension will keep the controls in place until February 14.

Scandinavian neighbours Denmark and Sweden have also implemented border controls.
