Vikander and Fassbender refuse to kiss for camera

Swedes aren't ones for cuddling in public. Not even Alicia Vikander who was caught by a 'kiss cam' with her rumoured-boyfriend and fellow actor Michael Fassbender.

Sweden's rising Hollywood supernova missed out on one of Britain's top cinema awards for her starring roles in acclaimed sci-fi thriller 'Ex Machina' and transgender biopic 'The Danish Girl'.

But that did not stop Bafta presenter Stephen Fry from putting her in the spotlight when he let a designated Valentine's camera roll over selected audience members, demanding that they kiss.

However the Valentine's Day effort came dangerously close to falling flat when Fry picked real-life couple Vikander and Fassbender as his first victims. The Swede and the Irish smiled politely when the kiss cam centred in on them, but coyly refused to play for the cameras.

It was so awkward that the scene was even cut from the BBC One broadcast of the show. Thankfully for the rest of us, alert fans had already begun to share the moment on social media.

The situation was saved when actor Stanley Tucci and Leonardo DiCaprio each placed a cheek peck on Cuba Gooding Jr and Maggie Smith, respectively. Julianne Moore and Bryan Cranston, as well as Rebel Wilson and Eddie Izzard, delighted audiences when they all went for full-on smooches.

Vikander and Fassbender – who had been nominated for, but didn't win, a Bafta playing IT millionnaire Steve Jobs – have been seen together in public for months, but have never officially confirmed that they are dating.

Fassbender lost out on his Bafta to Leonardo DiCaprio, who won the leading actor category for 'The Revenant' while Brie Larson got a leading actress nod for 'Room'. Meanwhile Kate Winslet, who stars alongside Fassbender in 'Steve Jobs', was recognized as best supporting actress.

Both Vikander and Fassbender will have another chance at grabbing awards at the Oscars gala on February 28th. Vikander is nominated in the best supporting actress category for 'The Danish Girl' and Fassbender is up for a best actor award for his role in the Steve Jobs biopic.
